Patterson
receives $126,000 grant.
Funds will be used to renovate the wastewater collection System
The Iowa Department of Economic Development has awarded Patterson
federal funds for sewer upgrades.
Patterson, with the assistance from the Southern Iowa Council of
Governments, requested funds in November 2010 from the Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The announcement made on behalf
of HUD by the Iowa Department of Economic Development means that
$126,000 in CDBG funding will be available to Creston to begin
improvements as early as Fall 2011.
“The federal funding will allow Patterson to update the wasewater
collection system to meet increase flows and provent future sewer
backups” explains Timothy Ostroski, executive director of the
Southern
Iowa Council of Governments which prepared the grant application.
“Due
to the location and age the city will upgrade the wastewater collection
to resolve these problems.”
Ostroski further explained that the CDBG funding program assigns
priority to communities like Patterson that have prioritized
infrastructure improvements and worked over a period of years to
systematically make upgrades.
